The Tudor Prince-Quartz Oysterdate Reference 9140/0 (often referred to simply as the 9140) is a rare and structurally distinctive piece of horological history. Launched by Tudor in the late 1970s (circa 1978–1980) as a direct response to the Quartz Crisis, it features a unique design language that sharply contrasts with standard Tudor round-case dress models.
The Integrated "Oyster" Case: The watch measures approximately 37mm to 38mm in diameter. It belongs to a specialized, angular generation of 1970s Tudor cases utilizing an integrated bracelet architecture (Reference 9585). The case back features the traditional "Original Rolex Case By Rolex Geneva" stamping alongside a genuine Rolex screw-down crown.
The Fluted Bezel: Unlike its sibling references that utilized smooth bezels (such as the 9101/0), the 9140 features a prominent, engine-turned or deeply fluted stainless steel bezel paired with an inner minute track chapter ring (rehaut) that adds tremendous depth to the dial profile.
The Blue Dial: Highly coveted by collectors, the original factory deep blue dial variant provides a rich contrast against the 316L stainless steel case. It features clean stick indices, a classic Tudor Shield logo at 12 o'clock, and a date window at 3 o'clock magnified by an acrylic Cyclops crystal lens.
The Movement: The watch is powered by a high-grade, 7-jewel Tudor caliber 940.111 quartz movement (derived from a robust Swiss ETA base platform). It includes a convenient quick-set date mechanism operated via the crown.
