The IWC Ingenieur "500,000 A/m" (Reference IW3508) with a white dial and stainless steel finish is one of the most historically significant, highly over-engineered neo-vintage timepieces ever built. Produced in extremely small numbers between 1989 and 1993, it represents a milestone peak in anti-magnetic horology.

Unlike traditional antimagnetic watches that use a heavy internal soft-iron Faraday cage to block magnetic fields, IWC chose to engineer the movement components out of entirely non-magnetic materials.

  According to collector breakdowns on Hairspring and Deployant, IWC implemented:

• • Rubies utilized as rotor ball-bearings.
  • Amagnetic materials for the pallet fork and roller.
  • A hairspring composed of a cutting-edge niobium-zirconium alloy. 

  This alloy was incredibly difficult and expensive to manufacture, causing IWC to famously lose money on every single unit sold. Furthermore, the alloy proved highly temperamental to climate and temperature fluctuations. Due to these structural challenges and high manufacturing losses, the watch was discontinued after a very short run. Experts estimate that fewer than 1,000 total pieces were ever produced across all variants, with only around 614 of those built in pure stainless steel.
