"UTC" stands for Universal Time Coordinated. Unlike typical GMT watches that use a long, sweeping 24-hour hand, IWC engineered a distinct Time Zone Corrector (TZC) mechanism:

  • The Jumping Hour Hand: When you travel, you can pull the crown out to the intermediate position and jump the main hour hand forward or backward in clean, one-hour increments. 

  • Seamless Adjustments: The minute and second hands keep running perfectly, so you never lose your precise time tracking while setting it to a new time zone. The date window at 3 o'clock is tied directly to this local hour hand and moves backward or forward as you cross midnight.

The watch is powered by the IWC Caliber 37526 automatic movement. This highly robust movement is heavily modified by IWC using an ETA 2893-2 base. It beats at a smooth frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz) and provides a power reserve of approximately 42 hours.
